2010 is International Year of Biodiversity, as declared by the United Nations.  Our contribution is via the many projects we undertake  that relate to proper planning, land and environmental management.  It is also via our operation of the National Biodiversity Data Centre for Ireland.

Good progress was made during the year in populating our database at the Centre and getting data onto the mapping system. The current situation is the mapping system displays 1,070,442 records of approximately 8,200 species. It also supports forty five databases, which includes data from the following departments and state agencies in Ireland aswell as most of the main NGOs involved in data collection: National Parks and Wildlife Service; Heritage Council; Environmental Protection Agency; Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Central Fisheries Board; National Museums of Ireland – Natural History; COFORD.

We currently seek opportunities to bring the skills and systems of the Biodiversity Data Centre to other countries and regions.
