GIS, Data, Hydrography, Geology Team Roles – National Seabed Survey

Building on an excellent working relationship with a client organisation we are seeking to build a team to support a leading national seabed survey, based in Dublin, Ireland.

Roles include:
• GIS Specialist
• GIS Technician
• Data Manager
• Hydrographic Data Processor
• Hydrographic Surveyor
• Marine Geologist

These are challenging and exciting posts, capturing and managing data across the eastern Atlantic and onto coastal fringes.  The summary requirements are presented below.

GIS Specialist
• A Degree in Earth Science, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
and
• A recognised postgraduate qualification in GIS.
and
• At least 5 years relevant post-graduate experience with GIS.
• Thorough knowledge of GIS, including ESRI ArcView, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server and web mapping systems including ESRI ArcIMS.
• A thorough knowledge of Web GIS systems, HTML, PHP and web based data delivery systems.
• Knowledge of latest and emerging GIS, surveying and remote sensing techniques and related ICT techniques and technologies along with associated web skills.
• A thorough knowledge of Geoscience data types; familiarity with the INSPIRE Directive.
• Familiarity with Open Source and Proprietary CSW, WMS and WFS services.

GIS Technician
• A Degree in Earth Science, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with GIS concepts and software packages; including ESRI ArcView, ArcSDE, Web GIS systems, web based data delivery systems.
• Familiarity with Geoscience concepts, metadata standards and key data types.

Data Manager
• A Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Earth Science or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years working experience post graduation in a relevant field.
• Ability to scan large volumes of data in a short time frame and produce reports.
• Solid understanding of data administration, data migration of ‘big data’, data procedures and data migration in a windows environment.
• Familiarity with modern databases and information system technologies
• Experience with data management processes including data plans, data standards, quality control, cataloguing, data publishing.
• Excellent analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills.

Hydrographic Data Processor
• A minimum of 2 years operational sea-going experience as a Multibeam Data Processor in a geophysical or hydrographic survey team.
• A thorough knowledge of CARIS HIPs&SIPs or QPS Qimera multibeam processing software.
• Familiarity with survey data acquisition systems and software.
• Holding, or willing to obtain, required marine certification – ENG11 medical, STCW95 PST etc.

Hydrographic Surveyor
• A Degree in Geology, Marine Geophysics, Hydrographic Surveying, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
Or
Extensive & documented practical Maritime experience & engagement.
• 1 year operational sea-going experience as part of a survey or geophysical team, on a variety of surveys.
• Relevant experience with survey or geophysical data acquisition and interpretation systems.
• Holding, or willing to obtain, required marine certification – ENG11 medical, STCW95 PST etc.

Marine Geologist
• A Degree in Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant working experience, 1 of which may be as part of a postgraduate course.
• Excellent organisation, writing and communications skills.
• Proven research capability.
• Knowledge of ground truthing methods, marine sample description, storage and processing.
• Familiarity with GIS technology, including ESRI software.
• Holding, or willing to obtain, required marine certification – ENG11 medical, STCW95 PST etc.
