We currently have two open positions as follows: Java / OGC GIS Developer & a .Net WebGIS / ArcGIS Server Developer.

JAVA / OGC DEVELOPER - MARINE DATA INTEGRATION

Compass Informatics seeks a systems developer with skills in Java and OGC web services.

The Post: You will work with a number of other project partners to develop an integrated solution for sharing of data and metadata across a range of marine data users. The project is a strategic project in the development of data management approaches to distributed marine data. You will join the project team at an early stage of the project and therefore have the opportunity to contribute to the solution design.

Key project elements will include:

  • Data map viewers development using Open Source or other products, with emphasis on OGC Web Services implementation and integration of distributed data holdings.

  • Metadata publication via OGC CSW Web Services.

  • Metadata catalogue system development to OGC and ISO standards including integration with databases to automate metadata generation and maintenance.

    Core Skills required:

  • Strong Java developer skills for Web interface development and backend integration works with SQL Server databases.

  • Knowledge of OGC Web Services (WFS, WFS-G, WMS, WCS, CSW) and relevant ISO standards (19115, 19139).

  • Exposure to products including GeoNetwork, GeoServer or similar (Red Spider, Deegree etc.).

  • SQL / SQL Server skills, including knowledge of SQL Server 2008 spatial data support.

  • Solutions design and specification.

  • Project control and liaison.

    For the purposes of related projects and potentially as part of the current project, skills in OPeNDAP, Thredds, NetCDF data format, and related approaches would be advantageous.

    Conditions:

  • Initially a one year post, with a view towards on-going post.

  • Based in Dublin with some work potentially undertaken in Galway, Ireland.

  • Salary is currently negotiable and dependent on skills and experience. Pension and other benefits also available. Please note your target salary.

    .NET / ARCGIS SERVER DEVELOPER

    Compass Informatics seeks a .Net / WebGIS systems developer.

    The Post: We are continuing to grow our systems development team and currently wish to recruit a proven .Net / ArcGIS Server developer with a web development focus. You will work with our systems development team to develop innovative solutions primarily in the natural resources and planning sectors. Systems to develop will involve ArcGIS Server, SQL Reporting Services, C#/VB/ASP.Net skills along with data management in spatial databases (typically SQL Server 2005/2008 / ‘ArcSDE’). Integration of mapping with SharePoint, SSRS will also be likely. Internal systems development is also important as we continue to improve systems to support our growing workload and expanding teams. All projects involve strong elements of collaborative learning and research.

    Core Skills required:

  • Strong .Net development skills (C#, VB.Net, ASP.Net); also AJAX and related approaches.

  • Strong SQL skills including stored procedures development.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services / Crystal.

  • SQL/SDE skills, including geodatabase design and management (ArcSDE, UML/Visio etc.).

  • Knowledge of OGC Web Services and relevant ISO standards would be advantageous.

  • Solutions design and specification.

  • Project management and internal /client liaison.
